WHAT ARE MELEE DIAMONDS?
Loose melee diamonds are tiny diamonds (usually 0.2 carats or less) that serve as an accent to a larger center diamond, giving the piece more appeal and detail. Melee comes in various shapes or cuts, such as round, princess cut, or oval.

Accent Diamonds
Melee diamonds are often used as accents to highlight the larger diamond center stones in a piece of jewelry. They can be set along the band of a diamond ring, scattered throughout a necklace, or used to create a halo effect around a larger diamond.
Pave Settings
Melee diamonds can be used in a pave/halo setting, where they are set close together with minimal metal visible between them. This creates a seamless and glittering surface that is popular in high-end jewelry.
Channel Settings
Similar to pave settings, channel settings use melee diamonds to create a continuous line of diamonds. This is often used in wedding bands, eternity bands, and other types of rings.
Invisible Settings
In an invisible setting, melee diamonds are set very close together with no metal visible between them. This creates a seamless and elegant look that is popular in high-end jewelry.

QUALITY FACTORS AFFECTING THE PRICE OF MELEE DIAMONDS
Once you know the shape of the melee you would like to use, the next step is to consider other quality considerations that will improve the overall value and appeal of your diamond jewelry. Several factors determine the quality and price of melee diamonds, including cut, color, clarity, and carat.
CUT
The cut of a melee diamond refers to the way that it has been shaped and polished, and can impact its overall sparkle and appearance.
COLOR
The color of diamond melee is rated on a scale from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow or brown), with the more colorless diamonds being more valuable.
CLARITY
The clarity of a melee diamond refers to the presence of inclusions or blemishes. A diamond with fewer inclusions and blemishes will be more valuable.
CARAT
The carat size of melee refers to its weight, and diamonds with a higher carat weight will generally be more valuable.

CRAFTING OF A MELEE DIAMOND
Two predominant classifications exist for the craftsmanship of melee diamonds: the Full Cut and the Single Cut.
The bulk of melee diamonds undergo a cutting technique resulting in 57–58 facets, mirroring larger stones. These harmoniously symmetrical melee diamonds are then positioned around the central diamond — a process termed the Full Cut.
The Single Cut results in 17 facets and lacks the brilliance found in the full-cut diamond. In contemporary practice, the Full Cut prevails. Single-cut diamonds find their niche primarily in vintage timepieces and heirlooms.
FACTORS INFLUENCING MELEE DIAMOND PRICES
Cut Quality and Diamond Size
Just like their bigger siblings, the price of a melee diamond is significantly influenced by its cut quality and size. An excellent cut melee diamond can enhance the brilliance and scintillation of a jewelry piece, making it more valuable.
Bundling and Wholesale Pricing
Melee diamonds are typically bundled into parcels comprising tens or hundreds of small diamonds, sold in bulk to jewelry designers or those in the repair or custom business. Pricing is based on total carat weight. You can order by weight or number of stones with White Pine.
ARE MELEE DIAMONDS WORTH ANYTHING?
Melee diamonds can be worth a significant amount of money, depending on the quality of the diamonds and the demand for them. A ballpark figure is generally hovering between $300–$400 per carat for those with an average grade. Top-tier melee diamonds — those boasting VVS/VS clarity grades and colors surpassing the H or I range — can reach up to $1,000 per carat.
